Stephen Primatic is a Professor of Music and Assistant Chair of Music at the Armstrong Campus
of Georgia Southern University in Savannah Georgia where he teaches percussion, theory, jazz,
and music technology. Dr. Primatic earned his Bachelor of Music in percussion performance
from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He received his Masters of Music from The
University of Miami, and his Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Georgia.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Primatic maintains an active performing career in the southeastern
United States. He is currently principal percussionist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra
in Hilton Head South Carolina, and The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra. Steve also plays in
jazz, classical, and theater venues throughout the region.
Dr. Primatic has over 25 compositions/arrangements for percussion ensemble published
through Meredith Music, drop6 Media, Tapspace Percussion, Colle Voce music, Row-Loff
Productions, and Alfred Music. He also has two books on percussion pedagogy and instrument
maintenance/repair published through Meredith Music.
