SAVANNAH, GA – February 12, 2019 – The Savannah Philharmonic is partnering with Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation (“The Lighthouse”) to celebrate the healthcare nonprofit’s new permanent location in the Coastal Empire. The Lighthouse, Georgia’s only statewide provider of free and low-cost vision and hearing services for uninsured families, is based in Atlanta but has held a mobile eye clinic in Savannah every other month for over a decade. They open for good in Savannah on Feb. 28 and festivities are in order to mark the momentous occasion and garner support
The Lighthouse’s gala fundraiser, Night of Spectacles, will feature music by the Savannah Philharmonic and an art exhibit boasting Georgia Southern student-created pieces made with recycled eyeglasses. The unique works of art will be on display for viewing by guests as they enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine. The event – set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Charles H. Morris Center – will also include an auction.
Founded in 1949, The Lighthouse works with a statewide network to provide free eye exams and deeply discounted prescription eyeglasses, eye surgeries, and hearing aids annually to over 7,000 Georgians who are uninsured or who have insufficient insurance. With the establishment of a permanent location, Savannah residents in need will have regular access to high-quality, affordable vision and hearing care.
