Dear Friends,
We are pleased to present the Savannah Philharmonic’s 11th Season. This will be an especially exciting year as we continue our search for a new Music Director. We have attracted a gifted group of conductors to Savannah to direct a season full of glorious music.
Our season opens with one of the most spectacular showpieces in the symphonic repertoire, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. You’ll also experience monumental works like Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, and Mozart’s incomparable Requiem. You’ll enjoy fun and fascinating shorter pieces, including new works by Anna Clyne and Missy Mazzoli, Marquez’ Danzon No. 2, Rossini’s Overture to the Barber of Seville, and Bernstein’s Overture to Candide.
Our 11th Season soloists represent a diverse group of special talents. Featured guest performers include American Traditions Competition gold medalist Mykal Kilgore – best known for appearances with Postmodern Jukebox and as a cast member of NBC’s The Wiz Live! – and renowned trumpeter Thomas Gansch. Three exceptional musicians – pianists Ian Parker and Nathan Lee, and violinist William Hagen – will dazzle you with beloved concertos.
In October, pack your baskets and head to Picnic in the Park. Our Holidays Pops concert, at Christmastime, remains must-see entertainment for the entire family.
The Larsen Musician Spotlight series is curated by Savannah Philharmonic Concertmaster, Dr. Sinisa Ciric. Each performance is a collaboration between the orchestra and local ensembles including the UGA chamber orchestra, Mikki Sodergren with the Desdemona string quartet and the Savannah Arts ensemble.
The Savannah Philharmonic is a vital cultural asset for our community. Thank you for your support. We’ll see you in the audience during our 11th season!
