Savannah Philharmonic is excited to continue our Orchestra Lab program for area students throughout the city of Savannah, Chatham County, and surrounding areas. Orchestra Lab consists of in-school education and outreach programs during the entire school year. Philharmonic musicians, in partnership with music teachers and band directors, provide in-school sectionals, helping the students to achieve their personal and academic music goals. In the fall, we will be holding a District Band and Orchestra Clinic, which will be a larger scale workshop for all High School aged students in Savannah to prepare for this important event. We also collaborate with fellow not-for-profit Friends of Ben Tucker to provide three “Keep the Music Playing” workshops to schools that have instruments donated to them for their use inside and outside of school. These workshops not only include sectionals, but also a session on how to care and maintain their donated instruments, as well as hearing our musicians perform a selection for the students!
In addition, soloists performing with the orchestra are invited to give masterclasses to groups of students who are studying the same instrument as the soloist. Lastly, Philharmonic musicians continue to perform in small chamber groups at area schools in a variety of settings to introduce students to chamber music, discuss repertoire, and talk about rehearsal techniques and group dynamics.
