SAVANNAH, GA – April 26, 2019 –The Savannah Philharmonic will present its third “Keep the Music Playing” workshop at Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts, with band director Michael Hutchinson from 7:15-8:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 15. This will be the final of three “Keep the Music Playing” workshops this academic year, with the first workshops having taken place at Isle of Hope in October and Myers Middle School in January.
“Keep the Music Playing” was developed through “Friends of Ben Tucker”, a 501©3 nonprofit, in support of Ben Tucker’s legacy. The initiative provides musical instruments for socioeconomically disadvantaged students who have limited access to instruments and musical instruction. Teaming with Friends of Ben Tucker’s President, Larry Broussard, and the organization’s immediate past president, Barbara Essig, The Philharmonic musicians work with the students, demonstrating how to use, care for and clean their recently gifted instruments.
“We are so proud of the outreach programs we partake in every year,” said Savannah Philharmonic Education and Outreach Coordinator Kristen Spiridon. “Our primary mission is to enrich the community by sharing the joy of music, and seeing young people get the opportunity to experience such a fulfilling, life-long art is wonderful. We are so grateful to the Friends of Ben Tucker for making this possible with their thoughtful, generous donations.”
Other event sponsors include Georgia Council for the Arts, Gulfstream and Wells Fargo.
