The Savannah Philharmonic takes music to the streets! Philharmonic in the Streetz was developed by the Philharmonic to bring diverse cultures together. This community-wide collaboration engages area neighborhood associations, schools, churches and the City of Savannah. These free family-friendly gatherings feature live musical performances in a block party-setting strategically produced in challenged neighborhoods throughout the city where families may not have the opportunity to attend orchestral concerts. Music has the power to bring people together, making these biannual celebrations the perfect opportunity to create positive dialogue and to raise awareness for the positive impacts of music.
“Philharmonic in the Streetz” events, which are held in spring and fall, include music by Savannah Philharmonic musicians, special activities for children, and free ice cream and refreshments. Area food concessions are also invited to participate.
Philharmonic in the Streetz offers a contagious, kinetic energy, a blurred line between performers and audience, and, sometimes, even line dancing and song. Audiences are just as likely to hear blues and jazz, as well as the classical favorites. Guest performers showcase the versatility of the classical music experience.
Each time the Philharmonic produces this afternoon celebration of music and camaraderie, area schools and churches are engaged and involved in the production of the event. Area music students perform on stage, with their music teacher or band director, showcasing their musical advancement. It’s a crowd favorite!
The Savannah Philharmonic is proud to produce and present this growing community-focused event. It is an opportunity to share our music with new audiences, build camaraderie, have positive dialogue and highlight neighborhood development.
