SAVANNAH, GA – Nov. 5, 2018 – Lovers of vocal performances are eagerly anticipating the return of world-renowned Irish tenor, Anthony Kearns for An Evening with Anthony Kearns, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, 32 Abercorn Street.
Under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor, Peter Shannon, and Chorusmaster, Dr. Matt Caine, Kearns returns to the Savannah stage by popular demand to delight his audience with an evening of rich and memorable melodies.
Considered by many to be Ireland’s finest tenor, Anthony Kearns is best known for his many years of collaborative work with the highly-acclaimed, PBS super-group, The Irish Tenors. In addition to creating a successful solo concert career, including the 2013 release of a solo CD, With a Song in my Heart, Kearns still tours annually with group.
Kearns commented “I have played in Savannah before and I always enjoy returning. Obviously, there are strong ties between Savannah and Ireland which are highlighted every year at the St. Patrick’s Day parade with visitors from all over globe descending on Savannah to enjoy this Irish tradition. I very much look forward to working again with fellow Irish man Peter Shannon as he guides the Savannah Philharmonic through the wonderful arrangements of music we have to offer this year.”
This year’s concert repertoire is slated to include a wide variety of audience favorites such as Danny Boy, Limerick You’re a Lady, Nessun Dorma and Beautiful Dreamer. Having sung with many of the world’s best symphony orchestras, Kearns is prized for his dazzling, universal appeal to audiences, singing songs they have loved for years, with an exceptionally flawless voice. He is sure to have his Savannah audience enthralled throughout his magnificent performance, pleading for an encore and whistling merry tunes when they leave!
“Anthony Kearns is one of the finest Irish tenors in the world today. It’s always a pleasure to work with him because not only is his voice such an incredible gift, but he is a wonderful musician and person as well,” said Peter Shannon. “His first concert with the Philharmonic was an incredible success and we are delighted to have him back again. This concert will focus on some of the most beautiful Irish songs composed, but will also include popular pieces from the Musical and Opera repertoire. This concert involves the full orchestra and chorus together with Anthony and in full flight they are a sight and sound to behold!”
In keeping with Savannah Philharmonic’s own dedication to educational and community outreach, Kearns is also dedicated to making time in his busy career to sing for many good causes and charities both in Ireland and America, including Autism Awareness, music education and US Veteran’s causes, to name a few. He is often invited to perform at prestigious events, and in 2013 was asked to sing during several Presidential inauguration events, and later in the year for US President Obama and Ireland’s Prime Minister Kenny at the US Capitol.
An Evening with Anthony Kearns is presented by Inge Brasseler with Diane Tracy as soloist sponsor, and Paris Market as supporting sponsor.
