Lyric tenor Collin LaHood is setting a course for a classical performing career with a keen focus on opera. A recent graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, Collin completed his Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at the Townsend School of Music. During his undergraduate studies, he excelled in state and regional competitions including the noted National Association of Teachers of Singing competition where he won first place in the Georgia state competition and second in the Southeast regional competition. He made his professional solo debut in 2019 with the Middle Georgia Choral Society during his senior year at Mercer University in their performances of Messiah and reprised the performances in December 2021.
Collin performed leading roles in Mercer University Opera Theater productions including Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma as Mamma Agata and Charpentier’s and Offenbach’s d’Orphée aux enfers as Orphée. He also enjoys performing musical theater, and he has sung the roles of Nicely Nicely Johnson in Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, Maurice in Menken’s Beauty and the Beast, and Oliver in Wilson’s The Music Man.
Collin began a master’s degree in vocal performance in the fall of 2022. He has been coached in masterclasses by distinguished artists such as Nova Thomas, Angela Brown, and Sandra DeAthos. At Mercer, he was in the vocal studio of Marie Jarriel Roberts. Collin hails from Germantown Hills, Illinois.
